mitote ii
mitote II is the second release of the austin-based mexican son group, mitote. just like their first cd, mitote (2008), mitote II is a collection of songs featuring the sounds of rural mexican traditional instrumentation but expressed through a chicano musical imagination. while mitote adheres to traditional song forms, they are afraid to add vocal, instrumental, and harmonic phrasings and dissonances that are familiar to popular music of this side of the border, which can be heard on tracks such as "los refugios" and "son del barrio".

Vanessa LivelyVanessa Lively, who is originally from San Antonio, TX, chose some of the most powerful songs of this movement and embellished them with her own unique style and flavor. Her raw, soulful voice blends beautifully with the wide array of instrumentation including the accordion, charango and fiddle to create songs filled with passion and love. [view press kit]

mitote An Austin-based ensemble, Mitote explores the vast musical terrains of Mexican traditional son but with a Chicano sensibility. Anchored by jarocho instrumentation, sounds, and rhythms, one may call Mitote’s music son jarocho, yet its base rests upon a deep affinity for all of Mexico’s son traditions in addition to popular musics beyond the confines of ‘Greater Mexico.’ [download press release or flyer]

Informational Sessions

Austin Music FoundationAustin Music Foundation Programs

Music Industry Boot Camp is a quarterly educational seminar series, presented free to the public, which focuses on music business topics relevant to the professional development of independent musicians.  Panel discussions by industry leaders are offered with an audience Q&A and additional time for one-on-one questions.

Small Group Sessions, meetings of 30-50 participants, are geared to inform a smaller audience about focused music business topics and to allow individualized advice and discussion.  The smaller educational seminars facilitate transfer of hands-on business knowledge between artists and music community professionals who wish to mentor up-and-coming talent.

Austin Music Mixer, a monthly networking event hosted by AMF, allows musicians and music industry professionals to meet in an informal environment to share experiences, create alliances, build relationships, develop contacts, and support each other.

Austin Music Incubator is a unique, nationally recognized grant program to assist artists in creating and marketing new musical works through guidance, mentoring, and monetary resources.
